Hello there! Welcome to this “I’m so proud of myself” blog post. I have big news! Drum roll please. . .
As of December 2019, I am officially done with my Digital Media Master’s program at Northeastern University!
Over the course of 32 months, I completed 13 courses and one semester-long thesis project, all while working full time.
Some of the most important things I learned about include, but are not limited to…
- Communicating ideas visually, paying mind to fundamental art principles such as balance, proportion, variety, and harmony
- Planning and designing responsive, intuitive, and business-goal-oriented interfaces from start-to-finish
- Using thoughtfully planned user-research as a guiding light for every project
- Carefully selecting and sizing typography to improve the overall user-experience of a project
- Designing effective audio experiences for multimedia pieces
- Programming with languages like processing, HTML, and CSS
- Using design-thinking practices to come up with cutting-edge products and technologies
- Working on teams of people with diverse skill sets to complete multimedia projects
- Informing others through thoughtfully crafted visualizations and infographics
In that same time period, I also built this site, wrote and posted twelve career-related blog posts, switched jobs, planned a wedding, got married, went on my honeymoon, took two trips to India, raised a puppy, bought a car, got promoted, and went through countless other life changes.
It has been a heck of a ride.
As if this program completion wasn’t worthy enough of an “I’m so proud of myself” post, I am also receiving recognition for my work from the faculty of the Digital Media Program.
I was one of only six 2019 Northeastern University Digital Media program graduates nominated and selected by faculty to present on a thesis project at the annual Digital Media showcase, an honor I’m extremely proud of.
Last week, I presented my Get Secure thesis website in front of 80+ students, faculty, staff, and community loved ones.
Following my presentation, I also participated in a brief video interview on my experience with the program, footage which may be used by the program for marketing purposes.
Overall, I’m gushing with pride over all the ways I’ve learned and grown as a professional and a human these past two and a half years. Working full-time while going to graduate school was a lot of work, but I could not be happier I made the leap several years ago.
Ready to take the world of UX design by storm!
